Mexico have emerged the semi-final opponent for the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup. The Mexicans beat Ecuador 2-0 in their quarter final match on Monday night to set up a Thursday date with the Golden Eaglets in the semi-finals. The Mexico team are no doubt a formidable team having recorded wins over Argentina, Germany and hosts Chile in the road to this stage of the tournament.

The CONCAF flag-bearer have enjoyed some level of success in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, wining two past editions. After triumphing on home soil in
2011 and finishing as runners-up two years ago – losing to Nigeria in the finals, the El Tri, as the Mexico U17s are fondly referred to, are striving to go all the way again in this tournament.

The Mexicans however have a mountain to climb in the Eaglets who have also been churning out stunning display to come this far.
